Details
The Chanoka estate in Japan’s famed Uji region established their first tea garden in 1900. Now run by fourth-generation farmer Takada Masahiro, the estate is known for cultivating some of the highest quality teas in the country. Produced from the rare Asahi cultivar, the tencha is grown at 400m above sea level and shaded for 3 weeks before harvest.
Production honours traditional farming methods, with an emphasis on sustainability, natural growing methods and avoidance of pesticides. Chanoka is known for Asahi (morning sun) cultavar which produces a bright, luscious green tea. The result is a matcha with complex aromas of citrus and berries, deep umami flavours with a slight vegetal edge, and a sweet finish ending in a cocoa-like dryness. We recommend reserving this beautiful and unique matcha for traditional preparation methods (Koicha/Usucha) or unflavoured lattes.
